Independent Post-Schar School poll has Taylor up 50–46 over the nearly 20-year incumbent as momentum surges behind her campaign
HENRICO, VA – A new Washington Post-Schar School poll released today shows Shannon Taylor leading Rep. Rob Wittman 50% to 46% in Virginia’s 1st Congressional District. The poll comes one day after Sabato’s Crystal Ball moved the race from Leans Republican to toss-up, and as the Taylor campaign announces a major $2 million Q3 fundraising haul.
The Washington Post describes Virginia’s 1st Congressional District as a “national bellwether for control of the House” and reports that the new results represent a significant shift from the district’s results in previous elections.

A Washington Post write up of the poll says:
“Voters in Virginia’s 1st Congressional District, considered the national
bellwether for control of the House, narrowly favor Democrat Shannon Taylor over 10-term incumbent Rep. Rob Wittman (R), a Washington Post-Schar School poll has found.
Taylor, Henrico County’s top prosecutor, is preferred by 50 percent of likely voters, compared with 46 percent for Wittman. That is within the poll’s 4.5-percentage-point margin of error for that race, but represents a substantial shift to the left from previous elections.”
“Momentum continues to build behind our campaign because Virginians are sick and tired of Washington politicians like Rob Wittman profiting while we pay the price,” said Shannon Taylor. “I’ve spent my career putting public service first and holding people accountable, and that’s exactly what I’ll do in Washington. I’m going to keep talking to voters from Henrico to Chesterfield to the Northern Neck about lowering costs, protecting their health care, keeping our communities safe, and making government work for the people it serves.”
