Today, Henrico County Commonwealth’s Attorney, Democrat Shannon Taylor, coming off her recent announcement of her candidacy for the Democratic nomination for Attorney General, reported raising almost $300, 000 with about 97% of the contributions coming from Virginians and with over $290,000 cash on hand. This remarkable outpouring of support and enthusiasm comes in less than one month since her campaign announcement.
Taylor is the only Democrat who has filed to run for Attorney General, and her first fundraising report shows that she is building a strong coalition across the Commonwealth that can win back the Attorney General’s office from Republican control.
Ms Taylor commented, “I am so honored and humbled by the support I have received from all over Virginia. This is a clear indication that Virginians want an Attorney General with experience, with a record of standing up to MAGA extremism and hate and who stands on the front lines to address gun violence and against the unceasing attempts to destroy women’s reproductive freedom.
“I am the only candidate in this race with over 28 years of experience. I am the only candidate in this race who has put a Virginia Ku Klux Klan leader behind bars and I am the only candidate in this race who publicly announced, the day the Dobbs decision came down , that I would not prosecute any woman or her health care provider over abortion care.
“I invite Virginians to join me so we can make sure the Attorney General’s office stands strong to protect our rights and our values.”
Taylor announced her candidacy on June 19 and is the only Democrat filed for the nomination for Attorney General. Shannon Taylor was first elected Henrico County Commonwealth’s Attorney in 2011 after years of service as a professional prosecutor at the local, state, and federal levels. Shannon continues to be a relentless champion across the County, Commonwealth, and Country for building a fairer, more equitable justice system that keeps all of us safe.
