Henrico, VA – Today, Elect Democratic Women (EDW), the Congressional Member-led committee dedicated to electing Democratic women to Congress, announced its endorsement of Henrico’s top prosecutor Shannon Taylor for Virginia’s 1st Congressional District in her race against vulnerable Republican incumbent Rob Wittman.
“For the past 12 years as Henrico’s top prosecutor, I’ve worked to keep families safe—putting away violent offenders, drug traffickers, and fraudsters,” said Taylor. “When I was elected in 2011, I became the first woman and first Democrat in nearly 25 years to hold the job. I’ve led efforts to support survivors of human trafficking, combat the opioid crisis, and get illegal guns off our streets. And when Roe v. Wade was overturned, I was one of the first prosecutors in the nation to stand up for the right to abortion care. In Congress, I look forward to working alongside Elect Democratic Women to lower costs for Virginia families and keep our communities safe.”
This endorsement follows endorsements from EMILY’s List, Senator Tim Kaine, Congressmen Don Beyer, Eugene Vindman, and Suhas Subramanyam, as well as former Governors Ralph Northam and Terry McAuliffe and several members of the Virginia General Assembly Delegation.
The latest endorsement comes after Governor-elect Abigail Spanberger won the boundaries of Virginia’s 1st Congressional District on Tuesday night, underscoring a clear path to victory for Taylor to unseat Rep. Wittman.
