Newly Elected Members of the General Assembly Endorse Prosecutor Shannon Taylor for Congress in VA-01

All four newly elected legislators FLIPPED seats within Virginia’s 1st Congressional District

Henrico, VA — Today, four newly elected members of the Virginia General Assembly — May Nivar (HD-57), Leslie Mehta (HD-73), Mark Downey (HD-69), and Jessica Anderson (HD-71) — announced their endorsement of Henrico’s top prosecutor, Shannon Taylor for Virginia’s 1st Congressional District. Each of these members flipped previously Republican-held seats within the boundaries of VA-01 — a clear sign that voters across the district are hungry for change.

“I’m deeply honored to have the support of Delegate-elect Nivar, Mehta, Downey, and Anderson,” said Shannon Taylor. “These newly elected leaders reflect the energy and enthusiasm we’re seeing across the district. They share my belief that families deserve a representative who shows up, listens, and does the work — not someone who has spent nearly two decades putting himself first. Together, we’re building a coalition focused on lowering costs, protecting access to healthcare, and keeping our communities safe.”

These endorsements add to the growing momentum behind Taylor’s campaign. Taylor recently earned the support of Governor-elect Abigail Spanberger – who carried the boundaries of VA-01 in her victory last month and underscored a clear path to victory for Taylor to unseat Rep. Wittman. And both non-partisan elections race raters Cook Political Report and Inside Elections recently shifted Virginia’s 1st Congressional District in Democrats’ direction, specifically citing the strength of Taylor’s campaign as a major reason for the change.
