Taylor has backing of Governor Spanberger, more than $800,000 cash on hand, and strong momentum to flip Virginia’s new 5th District in must-win race to reclaim control of Congress
HENRICO, VA – Henrico County’s top prosecutor Shannon Taylor released the following statement following the successful passage of Virginia’s redistricting referendum, reaffirming her campaign for Congress in Virginia’s new 5th Congressional District:
“I got into this race to protect the community that I love, and I’m proud to continue that mission by running in Virginia’s 5th Congressional District where I’ve lived for 30 years. Donald Trump and House Republicans are hurting Virginia families and we need bold fighters who know how to take on the tough fights and win. Right now, hardworking Virginia families are being squeezed from every direction — by rising health care costs, higher prices, and politicians in Washington who look out for themselves instead of the people they represent. As Henrico’s top prosecutor, I’ve spent my career standing up for families and holding people accountable when they abuse their power. That’s the same fight I’ll take to Congress: delivering for Virginia families and making government work for them again.”
Taylor is the Democratic frontrunner to flip Virginia’s new 5th Congressional District and has strong momentum behind her campaign, having already raised $1.3 million with more than $800,000 cash on hand. She has also earned endorsements from leaders across the Commonwealth including from Governor Abigail Spanberger, U.S. Senator Tim Kaine, and Representatives Eugene Vindman, Don Beyer, Suhas Subramanyam, James Walkinshaw, and Jennifer McClellan.
She also recently announced endorsements from 25 law enforcement leaders across the Commonwealth, signaling that her campaign is building the broad coalition needed to flip this seat.
