Prosecutor Shannon Taylor: While Virginians Pay More, Wittman Profits Off Another Stock Trade

Taylor calls for a complete ban on stock trading by members of Congress as part of her “Serve the People First” Agenda to clean up corruption in Washington.

HENRICO, VA – Today, Henrico County’s top prosecutor and candidate for Congress Shannon Taylor slammed Congressman Rob Wittman after a new report revealed that he made thousands off of a new stock trade, despite previously being caught failing to disclose stock transactions within the deadline required by federal law.

According to Dogwood, Wittman recently reported trading up to $15,000 in stock in Crown Castle Inc., marking his first reported stock transaction since 2023. That same year, Wittman was reported to have violated federal disclosure requirements by reporting other stock transactions late.

“While Virginia families struggle with rising costs, Rob Wittman is back to trading stocks while having access to information that only members of Congress receive,” said Taylor. “Members of Congress should be lowering costs, not using their office to grow their own wealth. I won’t buy or sell individual stocks in office, and I’ll fight to ban the practice for good. Our community deserves a representative they can trust.”

Over his nearly 20 years in Congress, Rob Wittman ballooned his net worth by more than 40 times, from $200,000 to $8.1 million, in part by trading over $2 million in stocks while having access to information no American outside of government has.

Taylor has made cleaning up corruption in Washington and holding politicians like Rob Wittman accountable a defining issue of her campaign. As part of her “Serve the People First” agenda, she supports banning members of Congress from trading stocks, instituting a lifetime ban on members of Congress becoming lobbyists, and mandating real jail time for politicians who break the public trust and abuse their office. Taylor has also pledged not to take a dime of corporate PAC money in her campaign or in Congress.
