Shannon Taylor, Democratic candidate for Attorney General, released the following statement:
“There has never been a more important time to insist on an Attorney General who will stop at nothing to protect the rights, freedoms, and well-being of every Virginian. Unfortunately, Jason Miyares has spent his time in office failing at this charge – attacking reproductive freedom, disparaging LGBTQ Virginians, removing Virginia citizens from the voter rolls, and refusing to combat climate change or hold polluters accountable. He has used his office for his own political gain and to prove to Trump that he is a loyal soldier. The stakes are too high now to allow anyone in this office who hasn’t proven they know how to win the big fights coming our way.
“I know what’s coming, and I know how to stop it. We need to defeat Miyares, and to do that, we need an experienced attorney who knows how to win tough races. I have spent over twenty years as a prosecutor and over a decade in the Henrico Commonwealth’s Attorney’s office fighting for Virginians’ rights and freedoms, advocating at the General Assembly, fighting hate crimes, protecting voting rights, speaking up for those who are vulnerable and, yes, reducing crime, getting guns off the streets and protecting my constituents.”
